Yesterday I DYED...TAADAAH!!!Here the results from my first foray into yarn dyeing, the process was really fun and here is the final outcome ....my inspiration were pics of these african baskets, it may be hard to see in the pics, my colorations are shades of brown, tan ,orange, wine(fuschia) and black(that came out steel grey) ...I dyed mohair, alpaca, wool, and two funky textured yarns..I have enough to complete a throw or shawl..I purchased from the fellas at Threadbearfiber arts the Twisted sisters sock book... so I think for my first pair of socks I want to dye the yarn for it....so Rob or Matt if u are reading this email me the total for yarn for socks....they also demonstrated the drop spindle technique...I feel a new obsession coming on...lol...I'm creatively rejuvenated.... Thanks Rob and Matt!!!...I see many more drives in Indy...yall have to know I dig yall cause a sista hates to drive...and don't forget to put me on the schedule to work on mondays and tuesdays in your new shop, lol Dropped by Locqueen at 8:48 PM Friday, June 20, 2003
Here is the progress on the shaggy throw I'm knitting for a friend......I'm finally motivated to hurry up and complete this...I have decided that I need to at least spend two hours a day knitting only this,lol...I feel that as long as this is hanging over my head I can't really jump off into new projects....ooohhhh the pressure of it all,lol....this is why I don't like "special orders",lol...I need to be FREE...FREE...FREE...to go where my creative mind takes me.....don't get me wrong the lady that I'm creating this for is mad cool....and will be tons of help in helping me shape my business....but I guess in my soul I'm an artist....and it is about the creative process not the nuts and bolts of business....lol Dropped by Locqueen at 11:59 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2003
OK the verdict is in for my koigu camo wrap(not shawl)....using a single strand...vertical drop stitch..sixe 5 needle...I swatched a few different stitches and this was the winner....lil"t" from one more row blog chimed in her two cents...and I agreeded...the rice stitch, seed stitch, garter stitch was just too blah...the vertical drop stitch has a wonderful undulating rib combined with the openess of long rows of dropped stitches...I think the end result will look rather artful and distinct,lol...my latest fixation has been the book Handpainted Country(don't sleep on this one...buy it!!)t) which has inspired me to step even further out the box with my thinking....just because a yarn is handpainted,muti-colored doesn't mean that you must stick with a "simple" stitch...the book suggest swatching many stitches to see how the colors in the yarn will react...now it would just be plain goofy to do complicated cable work(ala the wonderful Antonio!!) with handpainted yarn..because I that wonderful work would be lost....but know that there is a whole world of wonderful stitches out there begging to be knit...not that I'm hatin' on stockinette and garter,lol...because they have firmly cemented there place in our hearts....but sometimes one needs to step outside the box and knit a bit wicked...(Glampyre U rock!!!) ok..I'm obsessed with the camo koigu,lol....I have swatch it using the vertical slip stitch...I doubled the yarn and used a size 8 needle...but I think if I do that I wont have enough yarn to get the dimensions I want...it needs to be GRAND..lol..so far this is the swatch..I like the stitch..actually it comes across more texturally... here's another pic.........I may need to drop down to a size 4 or 5 needle and use a single strand...I need to make a run to yarn shop this morning for needles....
